Karate at Home

- Positive aspects and Problems

Learning karate at home has it’s difficulties, one of them being, no martial arts teacher there to give instructions.

This is not to say that individuals should not train in their karate at home, essentially I think training your karate stances at home ought to be encouraged.

The warm up period up and extension of muscles is a really critical part of your karate warm up exercises. The warm up and stretch period of your training really should be thorough. Not only is this exercise period great for your health and aiding with your balance, it will also significantly decrease the threat of damage to vital muscles.

The standard karate strikes for rookies, consist of a several punches, kicks, blocks, strikes and stances. These karate methods can be practiced at home with the appropriate teaching components. Having some well written karate books, DVD’s or on-line resource is vital if you intend training at home.

The karate kata (kinds), is a wonderful part of karatedo (the way of the empty hand), kata is absolutely my favorite portion of karatedo. There are numerous kata, ranging from the really simple, like kihon kata (taikyoku shodan), which only includes 1 stance, zenkutsu dachi (front stance) and two various karate strikes, oizuki (stepping punch) and gedanbarai (downward block), or more advanced techniques, like unsu, which has numerous diverse stances and methods, which include jumps, spins and kicks from the floor.

All the kata take a ton of energy to perform, so study and observance is important.

When learning karate at your place, one problem is that you don’t have anyone to spar with, which is the kumite (sparring).

I definitely do not propose sparring at home without the eyes of a professional sensei (instructor) observing you. It is at this level I propose hunting for a neighborhood karate class and there are some extremely wonderful karatedo dojo (colleges) out there. Just make positive you go to a few just before committing to an individual dojo, select the karate dojo and sensei that fits your character, since they fluctuate tremendously as far as their training methods go.

It would be wise to sit in on many training classes before finally committing yourself to the dojo, generally it’s a good idea to complete all your belts at the one dojo. Refinements can be made after you have gained your black belt if you so desire.

I know there are persons out there who have no interest in the sparring and are only concerned with the well being facet related with karate education. So perhaps these men and women are in an improved position to start out mastering karate at home, as long as you comprehend, with out kumite (sparring), your karate will be incomplete and if you are searching for self defense, you should indulge in kumite.

Kenpo is distinguished as a striking, stand up martial art although in schooling aspects of wrestling and Jiu Jitsu are often practised. So for those of you who enjoy stand up slugging away and incredible KOs, this is certainly a fashion you want to look into.

Kenpo is far from being a restricted art and has more than 700 techniques plus 72 kicks!

That’s a good deal of mastering and not something that can be mastered overnight. Certainly you not attain a black belt in 6 months . And so this should be evidence that plenty of dedication and belief has gone into perfecting Kenpo’s fighting design and that it has been consistently updated to meet a shifting atmosphere with regard to fighting techniques.

Self Defense Tactics

In today’s violent world, it is good to know some self defense tactics. These tactics can successfully allow for escape from a dangerous situation or lead one to avoid it altogether. Self defense tactics speak to the way a confrontation is handled rather than to the implementation of specific techniques or learned responses such as a specific kick, hold or manœuvre.

A useful self defense tactic is to cultivate the warrior mindset. This refers to the determination to survive a violent encounter at any cost including using reasonable force against an attacker to preserve life or property.

This allows an individual to control fear to the extent where they are able to respond in a logical, clear manner to a threat and to do what is necessary to preserve their lives. Survival and escape are the dominant motives behind this self defense tactic.

Practicing alertness is also a good self defense tactic. People who are alert are less likely to become victims as they are often able to assess the level of threat ahead of time and either avoid it or make provisions to come out of it alive.

Simple steps such as avoiding dark areas late at night or walking with company in crime-ridden areas may prove an adequate deterrent to criminals looking for an easy prey.

Cultivating an air of confidence can result in lesser attacks. Criminals tend to target persons they perceive as being weak and inept. Persons who exude self confidence may prove a greater risk to criminals and hence increase the chances of their detection and arrest.

Using self defense products can be very useful and effective. If used properly they will allow for a period of time to escape. Persons who arm themselves with these items are also likelier to have an escape plan and know how to implement it.

Tactically, they are better prepared than those who are less concerned about their safety .
Keeping physically fit and having a fitness level which allows for a quick, decisive response to a physical attack is the best way to implement the lessons learned in self defense classes. Getting and staying fit is a good self defense tactic on it’s own.

Learning self defense techniques which are realistic are more helpful during a confrontation than a series of karate kata which are not realistic. Realistic self defense lessons involve techniques which involve hitting and being hit.

There is no other way to get over the mental shock of being hit and attacked. A good self defense tactic is to practice these techniques so that they become instinctive. During an attack there is no time to think about which move is next as it may be the last!

Remaining calm is probably the greatest self defense tactic. No personal self defense product, weapon or technique learned, will help if panic sets in during a confrontation. Staying calm will communicate confidence to the assailant and could prove to be an advantage. It will also allow for a proper assessment of the situation and an effective strategic response.

Self defense tactics are important. They don’t have to be complicated, they just have to work! Practice these tactics and see the difference they make.

The odds of you being a victim of a violent crime this year is 1 in 48. Learn how to protect and defend yourself and your loved ones so you don’t become a statistic. For more information on Self Defense Tactics visit

How To Make Perfect

Karate Stances Every Time!

First thing you’ll probably learn, when you walk into a Karate dojo, is how to make good Karate stances. This is because stances are the basic foundation for the arts. These are how you lock the body to the ground, and make it into a class AAA machine.

Systems that don’t have stances will not generate the massive amounts of power that the classical martial arts develop. I am talking about all the systems of Karate, including Shotokan, Goju Ryu, Uechi Ryu, shito ryu and so on.

The odd thing is that systems that don’t have stances could introduce stances into their systems easily, and thus increase their power tremendously.

To begin, the first stance is the natural stance, in which you simply stand with your feet shoulder width apart and feet angled to the front. Since this is natural, and takes no real instructions, we won’t go into it. Simply, this type of stance doesn’t generate power.

To build an Hourglass Stance, which does generate energy, start with your feet together. Keep the toes touching and swing the heels out, then keep the heels where they are and swing the toes out, then keep the toes fixed in place and swing the heels out again. Lower the stance slightly, push the knees together (stand pigeon toed) and breath to the tan tien (the one point located just below the navel).

To build a back stance from the hour glass stance just move one toe all the way out to the side and drop your weight on the other leg. You might have to reposition the turned out foot slightly, moving it to the side, as you want to be able to move without having to move your hips to move your leg through. This is an extremely useful stance in the Eastern disciplines, as you can crouch and launch with no discernible movement.

Next we will make a horse stance, which is also called Mabu in the Chinese martial disciplines, and Kiba Dachi in the Japanese systems. From a back stance simply fix the toes of the front foot in position and move the heel out, and let the weight settle evenly down the legs. This is a high horse stance, and you can spread the legs further and get lower, and thus make more power, just by moving the feet to the sides.

Finally, to create a front stance, simply turn the toes of one of the feet in the horse stance to the side and sink your weight on the front foot. You may want to move the front foot more to the side so that the feet are on parallel tracks shoulder width apart. This is a great stance when you want to rush forward and attack.

There are many other stances you can make, and it is simple to figure out a foot or leg motion to do these. These would include such stances as the crane stance (lift one leg), the kneeling stance, the cross kneeling stance (dragon), and so on. The main thing to remember is that you should be able to position yourself so that you can make the transition through the karate stances while conserving, and even creating, more and more power.

Self-Defense Training For Children

Self-Defense has clearly become the need of every individual in today’s world that is full of violence and crimes. Either you are young or old, man or woman or even you are a young child it has become imperative for all of you to get proper self-defense training for your own safety and security.

Parents, Guardians And Teachers Of Children Are Responsible To Provide Required Self-Defense Training To Children

It is the responsibility of the parents, guardians and even the teachers to help children in making their self-defense strong by providing them the required necessary training. The training of self-defense for children starts from their homes as their parents can play a key role in teaching them basic techniques of their self-defense. It has been observed that many parents do not give importance to this factor but we want to make it clear that it is a thing of big concern for them and they should not neglect this factor and try to give proper time to their little kids so that they can become confident and mentally strong to deal with any untoward situation.

Educationists Should Come Forward To Play Their Due Role In Making The Self-Defense Of The Children Strong

Besides, parents educationists can also play an important role in ensuring the self-defense of the children. As we know that teachers are the builders of any nation therefore in the same way they can play pivotal role in this matter too. So they should show their responsibility and teach their little students the basic techniques of self-defense.

A Look At Some Of The Guidelines

First of all you as parents should keep in mind different types of the possible scenarios where your little one is at high risk to an assault. The school of your child, the playground or street of your home could be such places where there are chances of any bad incident. Therefore you need to educate him or her about different sorts of dangers that he or she may face at those places and also train your kid how to tackle or avoid such incidents. The idea is not to scare him but to empower him in case need arises. It’s important that the kids understand what stranger means and how they should stay away from them.
Secondly, it is highly recommended that never leave your kid alone anywhere. When you are out of home with your child then keep your kid before your eye all the time and never let him or her go anywhere. You should also make it a habit of your child to play indoor games so that your kid gets used to such games and does not feel the need to go out in the street to play with other children.

What website can you learn karate online?

I’m interested in learning karate online

With all the sincerity of my response, The use of training online, videos, or training books without proper instruction from a qualified martial arts instructor are rarely a path one should choose if they want to succeed and progress as a martial artist.

Video, Internet and books training alone cannot turn you into a good or an effective martial arts practitioner. Many can argue that Bruce Lee did it, but how many had forgotten that Bruce Lee had a solid martial arts background before he ventured on to create Jeet Kune Do.

Online lessons, videos, or books training cannot correct or give you advice that you’re doing things right or even wrong. Training in the martial arts without proper instructions and supervision can also cause minor or even serious injury.

Online, videos, or book training can be best described like having an “online, videos, or books romance”.

You don’t quite get the real thing ! You might think that you may have discovered the ultimate way of training in the martial arts, but when reality strikes, the facade and sloppiness of your “self-training” will show. The worst that can happen also is having a false sense of security.

A majority of self-taught, pseudo blackbelts and fraudulent martial arts practitioners are one of the main reasons why the general public looks down on the martial arts as whole.

Many of the long time practitioners of the martial arts regardless of style finds this awfully frustrating when we spent half of our life trying to live up to the highest standard in our beloved art.

Any online video’s or books regarding the Martial Arts, should really be taken as an example of what a particular style looks like. Once you see a style that may fit your requirements then approach the Dojo for further information.
